History of komboloi
The opinions about the history of the komboloi are strongly divided, but it is most likely that the "mother" of the komboloi is generated during the Turkish occupation. The Turks had the Muslim-komboloia with 33 or 99 prayer beads.
There are two theories; 1. the Greeks took this with their own interpretation and 2. the Greeks took this with protest and took away a number of beads. Now it was easier to play with.
It is sure that the origin of the komboloi is very old and the roots from the komboloi are lying in the hindoeism or boeddhism.
The Rosary is much younger and has another origin.
